Is it your first time getting Thai massage? No need to worry anymore!

Updated: Dec 20, 2025

Getting Thai massage for the first time can be exciting but also a little nerve-wracking.

What should I wear? Do I have to take everything off? Will it hurt? What if it’s too painful? Is it clean and hygienic? Is it safe to go alone?

These are all perfectly normal questions that everyone wonders about before their first session.

We’ve gathered the most frequently asked questions from first-time massage guests to help you relax and enjoy your session with confidence!

1. What should I wear during a massage?

  • For Traditional Thai Massage programs, we provide clean and comfortable massage wear for you to change into before your session.

  • If you're receiving an aroma oil massage, we recommend removing your clothing and wearing the disposable underwear provided.

  • In any case, please rest assured that all of our therapists at keb-hom & rom-rib are highly experienced professional who are dedicated to making sure you feel safe, comfortable, and respected at all times.

2. Does it hurt?

  • The pressure can always be adjusted to your preference. If it’s your first time, we recommend starting gently and adjusting as you go. Our therapists are trained to check in with you and respond to your feedback. Just let us know what feel right.

  • That said, our therapists are not only friendly but also highly experienced. Even if you’re not comfortable speaking up, they’re skilled at reading your body language and subtle cues to adjust the treatment accordingly.

  • So don’t worry, even if it’s your first time, you’re in good hands!

3. How much should I say?

  • When it comes to massage, communication between you and your therapist is key. At keb-hom & rom-rib, we provide a simple consultation card before your session. On this card, you can note your preferred pressure level, any areas you’d like extra focus on, and any parts you'd like to avoid. This helps us tailor the treatment to your needs and make sure your experience is as comfortable and satisfying as possible.

  • And even during the massage, if anything feels off, whether it's the temperature, pressure, lighting, or anything else, please don’t hesitate to let us know. Your comfort always comes first.

4. Which massage should I choose?

  • If it’s your first time, we recommend starting with a gentle option like a full-body Thai Oil Massage or An Aroma Warm Oil Massage. If you have tight muscle, Deep Tissue or Thai Massage (with stretching) may be helpful, but even then, it's best to begin with a lighter pressure and adjust as needed.

  • At keb-hom & rom-rib, our front staff are well-trained and experienced in helping guests choose the right treatment. You're always welcome to reach out via chat or visit the shop for a friendly, no-pressure consultation.

  • We’ll help guide you toward the massage style, pressure level, and technique that best suit your body and need, without ever pushing you into more expensive option. We believe in clear pricing and honest explanation of each program, and we always respect your final choice. Come visit us with confidence. You're in control of your experience.

5. Is it clean and hygienic?

Visiting a local massage shop is something many travelers look forward to in Thailand. But hygiene can be a concern. If that’s on your mind, keb-hom & rom-rib is the place you can visit with peace of mind. We take cleanliness and hygiene seriously so that every guest can fully relax and feel safe during their massage. Here’s how we maintain our standard:

6. Is it okay to come alone? I’m a bit worried about safety.

That’s completely understandable. Visiting a massage shop for the first time especially on your own can feel a little intimidating.

  • At keb-hom & rom-rib, we’ve thoughtfully designed our environment so that everyone, regardless of gender, can feel safe and comfortable even when visiting alone.

  • All of our massage therapists are highly trained female professionals, each certified through official Thai government program. Only those who have completed the necessary education and hold valid massage certificate are allowed to perform treatment at our shop.

  • Before your session, we always take the time to check in with you about any areas of concern or any parts you’d like to avoid. And during the massage, you’re welcome to speak up at any time. We’ll adjust immediately to ensure your comfort.

  • Even during Aroma Oil Massage Session, we take extra care to keep your body properly covered with towels to avoid any unnecessary exposure. Your comfort and peace of mind are always our priority.

7. How much does it cost? Will I be asked to pay extra or pressured to tip?

  • At keb-hom & rom-rib, your peace of mind is our top priority. All of our massage programs are clearly listed with fixed prices including an English version of the menu and you’ll only be charged the price shown. There are no hidden fees.

  • We never push or upsell expensive program. Our team will always give you honest recommendation based on your need and preference only.

  • As for tipping, it’s entirely up to you. There’s absolutely no pressure or expectation. And just so you know, 100% of any tip you choose to give goes directly to your therapist. Management does not take any portion as we deeply value the skill, care, and dedication our therapists bring to every session.

  • No need to worry! Our friendly reception staff at keb-hom & rom-rib speak English and are always ready to welcome you with a warm smile and kind attitude. Even if there’s a language difference, we’ll do our best to make you feel comfortable and understood.

9. Is there anything I should be aware of before getting a massage?

  • It’s best not to eat a heavy meal right before your massage, a light stomach will help you feel more comfortable during the session.

  • Massage may not be recommended in certain physical conditions, such as: Pregnancy, Menstruation, Fever or active illness, Chronic conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, or varicose veins

  • If you’re unsure whether massage is suitable for your current condition, please don’t hesitate to ask. Our professional therapists will be happy to advise you and help ensure your experience is safe and beneficial.

We hope your first massage becomes a truly special experience.

Massage isn’t just about easing physical fatigue, it’s a precious moment to slow down, reconnect with your body, and take care of your mind. If it’s your first time, come as you are. No pressure. Let our therapists gently guide you in finding the rhythm that suits your body best.

It might feel a little unfamiliar at first, but we believe there’ll come a moment when you think,“I’m so glad I came.” :)
